As many of you may have noticed, we have made some changes to the entrance of our L.A.M.P. website. These were made to accommodate some new areas that we are introducing. These are in addition to the L.A.M.P. Movie Poster Data Base (see article on right).

This new section will highlight legendary film stars, including bios, accomplishments and filmography. Our first such LEGEND is dedicated to BOB HOPE, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday.

POSTER OF THE MONTH

This new article will highlight unusual posters that have been released through the years. Our first entry is the poster issued in 1978 for the film BILLY JACK GOES TO WASHINGTON.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

This new section will highlight some of the questions about posters that we receive each week. We will feature the commonly asked questions -- so if you have a question, please e-mail it to us. You may see it featured on our Question of the Week.

L.A.M.P.'S MOVIE POSTER
DATA BASE UPDATE

If you haven't heard about or been to the L.A.M.P. Movie Poster Data Base (MPDB) -- shame on you! The MPDB is designed to offer one location for movie poster collectors and dealers to (1) learn about movie poster collecting; (2) conduct research on specific movie posters; (3) access a movie poster archive and (4) buy or sell movie posters in a "safe" marketplace. (If you want to read about the MPDB and/or take an interactive tour, click HERE.)

Here is a brief update on the status of the MPDB:

PHASE 1 – List all the movies issued to English speaking countries (US, Canada, Australia and UK. STATUS: DONE…We have about 85,000 titles listed

PHASE 2 – Put movie information records in a database structure with basic info. STATUS: DONE – we have them structured with title, year, director (for identification) and genres.

Because of the size of this system, it was necessary to move the entire database into a SQL server and to increase in storage size. After debugging, the system is now secure in its new SQL server with larger storage capacity!

PHASE 3 – Attach images of posters and other info. STATUS: IN PROCESS…. We already have 4-5000 photos in and adding rapidly.

PHASE 4 – Attach listing program for dealers to add posters that they have available for sale. STATUS: We just finished testing the program AND IT WORKS GREAT!!!!!! We now are working on the login and password program and contract and instruction programs that we have to attach to it….we should be testing these in the next couple of weeks.

NEW ARTICLES AND PRE-SELECTED SEARCHES

We are working on adding new articles and pre-selected Data Base searches to the LAMP website. The new article "GENRE" lists the most commonly used terms for determining film genres. These terms are then attached to a pre-selected search screen. When you click on a particular "genre", the Data Base automatically sorts and lists the movies in the Data Base that meet that selection.. If you would like to check out this new article, click HERE.

We are also working on updating and adding pre-selection searches to our major studio articles. For example, if you go to the Universal Studios article, you then have the option to click on the FILMS to see which Universal films are currently listed in the Data Base. If you would like to look at this article, click HERE.

We're in the process of adding additional articles that will have the pre-selected criteria for data base searches. Examples of these would be documentaries, black cast films, X-rated films, animation, shorts, silents etc.

We will announce in future newsletters as these articles are added.
