LAMP'S 2005
YEAR END REPORT
We couldn't be happier that the year 2005 is now over. The year began
with problems for LAMP, and ended with us having to literally "run
for our lives.".
As you may recall, in December of 2004, our server was hit with a worm
which infected not only our site, but also our backup programs. It took
us the first months of 2005 to get all the articles back on line. This
setback caused many of the projects planned for LAMP to be put on hold.
By early spring. LAMP was surpassing its early traffic numbers, reaching
record highs.
Then came August 29th -- the day that changed our lives forever.
Hurricane Katrina paid a visit to our area, devastating New Orleans
and its surrounding parishes (we live ten minutes from downtown New
Orleans). We left our home on August 28th, and were not able to return
to live in it until November 14th.
Fortunately, through all of this personal trauma, LAMP continued on
line, with no difference in traffic. In fact, traffic continued to grow,
as it does to this day. But this too forced us to place our LAMP projects
back on hold while we dealt with our personal situation.
Notwithstanding these setbacks, we did make several major additions/changes
to the site, and we are proud to announce that during the year 2005,
we had 2.3 million visitors.
But the year just couldn't end on a positive note. We started experiencing
periods of downtime -- something we hadn't experienced before. It was
determined that we had literally "outgrown" our host server
and they could give us no more space. The bottom line - we had to move
EVERYTHING to a new host server. So the hunt was on.
We thought we found just what we were looking for only to find out
that it would cost us $25,000 for the programs necessary to run our
site. Needless to say, we started looking elsewhere. We have found a
new host and have finally gotten everything moved. We now have 80 gigs
of online space on a dedicated server which will give us PLENTY of room
to grow.
LOOKING FORWARD TO 2006
We now have the space to truly expand, and we have set
several goals which we hope to achieve during the year.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY -- DELAYED
January marked LAMP's five year anniversary. Each year, we have celebrated
our anniversary by offering a special program for non-LAMP dealers and
sponsors to join the LAMP family. However, due to all the setbacks,
we are postponing our celebration until February.
If you've been thinking about becoming a part of the LAMP family, be
sure to check back then.
