In Memory of BARBARA FRANCHI

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Barbara Franchi. Barbara was born in Long Island, New York and attended Hunter College and CCNY. She taught high school and college biology, general science, and geology in New York City high schools, CCNY and then Loyola of Montreal. From 1969-2005, Barbara and her husband Rudy operated The Nostalgia Factory, the oldest movie poster website on the Internet. She co-authored (with Rudy) Miller's Movie Collectibles, considered one of the finest books written on collecting movie memorabilia. The Nostalgia Factory was the first official supplier of poster images to the IMDb. Barbara, along with Rudy, organized and cataloged vintage movie poster auctions at Skinner Boston and Christie's New York, and was an appraiser/generalist on the PBS series Antiques Roadshow.

Barbara's contributions to this hobby are immeasurable, and we will all miss her dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rudy and their children.

Contributions in Barbara’s name can be made to Beit T’Shuvah, 8831 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90034.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW LAMP
SPONSORS AND DEALERS

Simon Dwyer - SimonDwyer.co.uk

Simon, a fifteen-year movie poster collector, has recently become a dealer as well. Based in London UK, Simon has posters from all over the world with a range that starts in the 1920’s and runs through to 1980. As a long-term lover of 1950’s and 1960’s Americana (Simon also has a ‘64 corvette and a ’42 Harley), the collection has always had a strong emphasis on kitsch classics - bad girl, teenage delinquent, sci-fi and exploitation movie posters, in particular. However, over the years, it has also expanded to take in Hollywood classics, auto, aviation and action films, amongst others. This website was set up as the first in the Lakesville family of websites. To follow in the near future will be new sites dedicated to comics, collectibles, toys and records. LAMP MEMBER UPDATE

As you know, we are in the middle of combining all the NSS numbers that we had gathered over the years (about 15,000) with the book that Bruce Hershenson bought, which was a 1999 print out of their National Screen number log. As I finish combining each year, I am making it available to you. We already have 15 years combined and online (from 1940-1954).

Directions: From the LAMP home page, go to the Members Section and look under "Logs" and go down to NSS to find them. Here is a direct link.

APPEAL TO COLLECTORS

If you love the hobby, PLEASE take the time to read this.

Sue and I have been poster collectors for over 30 years and sincerely love the hobby. Once we closed our retail store and decided to start LAMP in January 2001, we were committed to creating a place to document the hobby, primarily because very little existed out there. We thought that we were fairly knowledgable when we started, but each year we slowly began to realize what a vast amount of information was out there and how little was documented... AND THEN.. what an unbelievable amount was disappearing in front of our eyes. Continue
