Sue and I have been collecting film posters for over 30 years. Since 1997, when our first reference book came out (Collecting Movie Posters MacFarland Publishers), we have spent a majority of our time trying to research, document and educate as many as possible about film accessories.
Here's the facts
FILM preservation started in 1926 and has continued to grow. BUT with all the time, effort and "billions" of dollars that have been spent on film preservation - 80% - EIGHTY PERCENT of the silent films that were produced in the U.S. have been lost FOREVER!!!
All that time, effort and money has been spent on film with film preservation societies, museums and government projects focusing ONLY on film preservation. The problem is that when you DON'T have the film anymore, the next best thing that was part of the release and historically documents that release is the advertising material (posters, lobbies, stills, etc.) issued with it. BUT during all this time NOTHING has been done specifically for POSTER or film accessory PRESERVATION!!
Our purpose
We live here in Louisiana. In an attempt to bring more attention to Louisiana film history, preservation and film accessories, we are releasing our new book about films made in or about Louisiana.
In addition, to help promote our book AND hopefully bring more attention to the need for film and film accessory preservation in Louisiana, we are making our personal collection available for exhibits. We have one of the largest collections of Louisiana film accessories in the state.
We can vary the exhibit from one to several hundred pieces with information to fit any suitable event, depending on the size of the exhibit. We will make exhibits FREE as long as we can have our reference books available. If you have an event that suits Louisiana films or films in general, contact us and we'll be glad to work with your organization.
