Synopsis: from AFI On a honeymoon excursion, American Eleanor Mannering, who has chosen Prince Carl of Novodna for her husband, develops amnesia resulting from an auto wreck. In delirium, she calls Carl, who had to leave because his father was dying. Her doctor, who believes that she will die unless her husband comes, finds Dennis Mallory, an American adventurer, to pose as the prince. They fall in love, and Eleanor recovers, but when Carl, now the king, returns unexpectedly and sees them embracing, he challenges Mallory to a duel. After Mallory disarms him, Carl tells Eleanor that Mallory is an impostor, and even though the physician explains that the ruse was necessary, Eleanor sends Mallory and Carl away. When Novodna's prime minister, Baron Von Steinberck, abducts Eleanor, Mallory, followed by Carl, finds them in a deserted castle. Although Steinberck wounds Mallory and kills Carl, Eleanor is freed. When Mallory, near death, deliriously calls for Eleanor, she kneels beside him and embraces him. |
