LEGENDS
June 6th marked the 60th Anniversary of the Allied invasion
of Normandy -- the event many people believe changed the face of World
War 2. Our sister website, Learn
About Military Posters.com features an article dedicated to this
day, which includes a copy of the "Order of the Day" given
by Dwight D. Eisenhower on the eve of this operation, known as Operation
Overlord. It also has a copy of a memo which Gen. Eisenhower wrote
in the event of failure. Be sure to check out this article HERE.
The recognization of this milestone in our history brings
us to our next two "Legends" for the months of June and
July:
AUDIE MURPHY
A
commemoration of ANYTHING to do with World War 2 must include the
most decorated soldier in our history -- Audie Murphy. We highlight
Mr. Murphy's film history in our Legends Section. To read about the
fascinating and sometimes heartbreaking story of this great American
hero and film legend, click HERE.
JOHN WAYNE
Although
he was turned down when he attempted to enlist during World War 2
(due to an old injury and his marital status), John Wayne did more
than any other individual when it came to morale and driving young
men to enlist. His personal tours and his many military movies were
a recruiter's dream.
John Wayne represented through his war movies every
branch of the military. He wore many hats and held a variety of ranks
from General to Sergeant in his war movies. In all these roles he
had one thing going for him - courage. Duke was seemingly indestructible
in these military movies and he made us proud to be Americans.
John Wayne will be our featured "Legend" for
the month of July. We are currently working on his biography and filmography.
Be sure to check our Home Page over the next week for the link.
And speaking of 'THE DUKE" -- this brings us to
one of the most talked about and exciting auctions of the summer.
