Artist Series
featuring
Richard
Amsel
1947-1985

normally easy to find on the poster
Richard was a student at the Philadelphia
College of Art when he won the nationwide "Hello Dolly" poster contest sponsored
by 20th Century Fox. After this early recognition of his talent, his artwork
has decorated the covers of many leading magazines; movie posters, ads and record
jackets: including over 40 covers for TV Guide.
His Lily Tomlin cover for TIME magzine is part of the permanent collection of
the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC, and he was presented with numerous
awards, including the prestigious NY and LA Society of Illustrators awards.
Unfortunately, Richard died at an early
age from AIDS.
Amsel's work continues to be popular (especially his Indiana Jones posters)
and he is still an influence on young artists everywhere.
