PERSONAL UPDATES

Ed and I are always getting questions about our family, so I thought I'd give some updates on our son David, our granddaughter Ashley and our soon-to-arrive new baby!

GRANDDAUGHTER NO. 2 ON THE WAY

We are so excited to report that our daughter Sarah and her husband (and our programmer) Mark are expecting their second child, a daughter to be named Brooke, the first week of September which just happens to be the peak of hurricane season. I will post photos as soon as Brooke makes her appearance!

PLEASE -- NO HURRICANES!!!!!

DAVID'S THEATER DEBUT

To please his girlfriend Ashley, David agreed, reluctantly, to audition for a role in Ashley's Senior Class Play - Godspell. His goal was to get a small part because he really is not interested in musical theater. While he loves performing, it's in his heavy metal band. Fortunately for Ashley, he had not heard the soundtrack until AFTER the audition. Well, as fate would have, after his audition, he was asked (pressured) to take the role of Jesus. After looking at the script and realizing that he was going to be on stage throughout the whole play, and realizing that at one point he would be singing and dancing with a cane, he did everything he could to talk his way out. That didn't happen.

While we were attending the Ray Courts show in February, David was in his room memorizing his lines. On the road to and from California, Ed and I were working with him on his dialogue and songs. In addition, he had to put up with tortuous teasing, such as being referred to as "Jesus," -- which came from all directions, including Sue and Susan from Hollywood Poster Frames.

In March, David made his theatrical debut. Here are some of the scenes of David on stage as Jesus:

Anyway, he did five shows and Ed and I couldn't have been prouder. I was amazed at just how well he could sing when he was not "heavy metal screaming" the lyrics. In fact, he surprised everyone who knew him. We were hoping that this would inspire him to get into mainstream music, but alas, his reaction when it was over was relief and "I'll never do that again" attitude.

Since no one knew us at the school, we were actually referred to as "Jesus's family"!

ASHLEY'S FIRST PERFORMANCE

Not to be outdone by her Uncle David, Ashley also made her first stage appearance -- her class had their dance recital in June. She was a "blue bird" in the Tiki Room and a monkey in her Jungle Book routine. Here are some backstage pics:

Momma (our daughter Sarah who is "in the family way") and her little monkey
Daddy (our son-in-law and programmer Mark) also made his stage debut with Ashley

After the recital was over, Ashley turned to her Mom and said "Let's do that again!"

Ashley's 3rd Birthday

WOW - Ashley is now a beautiful little girl - no longer a baby. On August 3rd, our little angel celebrated her third birthday. How fast those years have gone.

And, true to her roots, she is already a computer geek. She loves the Nick Jr. games on the internet and plays them ALL BY HERSELF. It's amazing watching her whip around the screen using the mouse. Her hand/eye coordination is amazing -- and she can use either a desk top or a lap top with the same proficiency.

We plan to train her to input poster images by her next birthday!

Happy 2nd Birthday

How fast that year went! Our precious granddaughter Ashley is now two years old. No longer a baby, she is a beautiful "little girl." Here are a few pictures taken at her recent birthday party.

Ashley is a big fan of the Disney princesses and that was the theme of her second birthday party.

She was so happy -- she got four different princess costumes for her birthday.
She was always OUR LITTLE PRINCESS. That's me (Nana) in the back with the camcorder.

Here she is in one of her other costumes -- looking every bit the star that she is!

Mama - what's in here?. Our daughter Sarah (Ashley's Mom) looks while Ashley checks out the gift bag.

Uncle Bub (our son David) was the official camera man and dog sitter. His girlfriend, also Ashley, is sitting in front, while Sarah's dog Dori takes a nap on David's nap.

Happy 1st Birthday

Our beautiful granddaughter Ashley just celebrated her first birthday. Wow -- where did that year go! She is now walking/running (there's no stopping her), talking and getting into everything. Here are some pics.

Older Pics

Our granddaughter Ashley is now 2-1/2 months old. At her 2 month check up, she weighed in at a whopping 11 lb 12 oz and measured 24". She is in the 90% percentile. At this rate, she will be taller than me and my daughter Sarah (her mother) by the time she's three! Sarah is 5'2" and I'm just under that.

As many of you may know, several weeks ago we were facing the prospect of taking a direct hit from Hurricane Ivan. Fortunately for us (unfortunately for our neighbors to the east) the storm turned away from us at the last moment. However, with the baby being so young, Sarah and her husband Mark decided to seek shelter with some relatives who live in central Louisiana. Here are some pictures of Ashley on her car trip - running from her first hurricane!.

Ashley really enjoyed her trip -- her first (and I'm sure not last)
trip trying to outrun a hurricane!

Back home -- and bored!
