There was a previous British National Studios
taken over by John
Maxwell and the name changed to British
International Pictures in 1926. The British National Studios that is
most known started in 1941.
Lady Yule, widow of multimillionaire Sir
David Yule, was co-owner with J.
Arthur Rank in 1934 with the formation of British National Films (again
not to be confused with the earlier British National Films) and Pinewood
Studios. Lady Yule had sold her part of Pinewood to Rank and bought
Rank out in British National Films.
In 1941, Lady Yule purchased the old Neptune
Studio in Elstree and moved her
British National Films to the studio and it became known as British National
Studios.
Numerous productions were made there, with
neighboring ABPC
using the studios while they had to completely reconstruct their studios
from the damage done during the war.
In 1948, Lady Yule closed the studio due
to illness. She died in 1950.
