Printers in Australia

Printers

Fortunately, Australia is one of the countries that put the printer on the bottom of their posters. The difference is the size of the market and the way printing was handled..which IS quite unusual. A lot of the printing was done by a process called Hand Litho

One oddity is that it is common for different printers to print different sizes... For example, 1946 Postman Always Rings Twice; Offset Printers printed the Australian one sheet while Simmons did the daybill.

Another thing to watch for... Australia was the main supplier for New Zealand posters. Because of drastically different censorship restriction, there were times that films were shown in New Zealand at totally different times than they were in Australia. This created a LOT of oddities, such as numerous restrikes and reissues - AND sometimes these were done by different printers.

Another oddity is that DURING a film release, it was not unusual for the distributor to have additional posters printed.... and sometimes even printed duo-tone... for the SAME release. This creates a collectors nightmare.

Since there is no real numbering system on the posters, at least the printer information will quite often help to date the poster.

We will attempt to document and show as much as possible to give you as much information as we can... Be sure to check the archive, as we will also try to document these oddities as we find them. NOTE: when you go to the archive, if you are a LAMP Member, be sure to log in so you can see the extra larger images. The link will appear just below the regular image once you log in if we have one available. We have a lot that is NOT online yet, so if you don't see what you are looking for, email me and if I have it, I will put it online for you.

Here are printers that we have compiled so far. Included are the tags and if they changed, the years that we have documented so far and a link to the films that we have in the archive attributed to them. As we gather more information, we will also start adding articles on the individual printers.

These are taken from samplings and so they are NOT conclusive, but they should be able to help with some dating.
