CABLE TV POSTERS

It has become a common practice for cable TV stations to issue posters similar to those used in theatres to advertise their cable programming. This includes made-for-cable movies, movies that were once shown at theatres but are now broadcast by a cable system. These posters are generally displayed in the local cable provider's offices.

The posters that are released in association with cable programming are in many cases very similar to theatre one-sheets. They may be an inch or two smaller in size, but are usually distinguishable by the station's logo somewhere on the poster (i.e., HBO, Showtime, etc.)

Because these posters were never issued by movie studios to theatres as advertising materials, they are not considered by most movie art collectors to be "legitimate" theatre sheets. However, they are popular among some movie memorabilia collectors. Because these posters are only printed for the cable offices, they are printed in extremely limited numbers which, to some collectors, makes them desirable because there are so few around. However, in cases where the movie made a theatre run and then is later shown on a cable system, the cable poster is generally not considered as collectible.
