Documentaries are generally film presentations
that are based on fact, such as historical, political or social events. These
films often contain actual news footage and narration. These films are normally
are released in very limited markets, many times on just regionally. War documentaries,
particularly those of World War I and World War II, 
were
extremely popularly with the movie-going public
Most producers of special distribution movies
release advertising materials to go along with their films. Just as these
movies are targeted for "special interest" groups, their movie posters are
also sought-after by 'special collectors who prefer collecting the materials
on these limited distribution films.
The advertising materials for these types
of "special target audience" films do not share the same widespread acceptance
mainstream movie materials. However, because of their smaller distribution,
there are limited numbers available thus making them harder to obtain. Posters
from X-rated films, independent films, sports and war documentaries are particularly
popular with some collectors.
