Fighting for their slice of the movie
pie, many independent filmmakers have difficulty finding a viewing venue
for their films. Since they are "unproven" to the "mainstream" movie
industry, these independent films are normally shown only in small,
independent theatres and those theatres that are geared toward "art"
films.
Most producers of special distribution
movies release advertising materials to go along with their films. Just
as these movies are targeted for "special interest" groups, their movie
posters are also sought-after by 'special collectors who prefer collecting
the materials on these limited distribution films.
The advertising materials for these
types of "special target audience" films do not share the same widespread
acceptance mainstream movie materials. However, because of their smaller
distribution, there are limited numbers available thus making them harder
to obtain. Posters from X-rated films, independent films and war documentaries
are particularly popular with some collectors.
