PROGRAMS

Programs were first introduced in the 1920's, particularly for major motion pictures. Sometimes the studios used them as giveaways to their patrons, while other times they were offered for sale as a souvenir. Their price in the 1920’s was ten cents!

Programs varied in sizes, form and presentation. Most programs, however, consisted of 10 to 20 pages chocked full of color spreads. photographs. biographies, advertisements, stories about the stars, information on the film's story line, or any other interesting tidbit that might be of interest to a theatre-goer.

Programs are used sparingly today, normally for special presentations only.
