STOCK SHEETS

Stock sheets were posters that were generic in nature, featuring characters in a variety of scenes, not specific to any particular film or title. Stock sheets were primarily used for cartoons or other short film projects that were provided to theatres along with feature films. They were also very popular with certain western stars. These stock sheets could be used over and over as they were not specialized for any particular cartoon or short.

Stock sheets were normally issued in the one sheet size (27x41) but were also issued in other sizes such as window cards, inserts and lobby cards.

They featured generic artwork without credit information. Sometimes they contain a blank area where a theatre could place a snipe giving the name of the cartoon or short being shown. Some snipes were removable so the stock sheets could be reused but others were just pasted over.

AS A COLLECTIBLE

Stock sheets are popular with some movie art collectors. This is particularly true of stock sheets from the early years and those of popular cartoon characters.
