Movie Poster Artists Series

United States Artists

The use of prominent artists dates back to the beginning of the movie industry. Unfortunately, however, the early movie studios in the US refused to allow the artists to sign their work. The studios would sometimes go so far as to direct the artists to not "paint" in their typical manner, not wanting artists to be recognized by their particular style.

This means that for many years, notable artists have provided fantastic artwork that in some cases to this day still goes unrecognized. Thankfully, this is not the case today, where it is common practice for artists to sign their artwork so that their signatures can then be reproduced on the posters. Still a great deal of very nice artwork goes unrecognized because of the signature being cropped or some part of the credits covering it.

We have linked their name into our archive to a presorted list of the posters that we have attributed to that artist so you can see their artwork.
