Half Sheet is a collectors term for what the industry
calls a 22x28 lobby card. It's issued in a horizontal format. Because of
the lack of research material, it is very difficult to say when the half
sheet was first used in the UK.
The British half sheet is the same size as the American
half sheet except for the tag line of printed in Great Britain or England
and occasionally the Board Seal.
It has been presented that the half sheet was first
used by National Screen when they set up paper distribution in the mid 1940s.
However, we have found pressbooks in the 1930s offering the half sheets
which is before National Screen had posters available.
It seems that the half sheet was phased out around
1960 and eliminated.
Here's a look at the British
Half Sheets in our archive
